ABOUT US

All of us are consumers of goods and services. A consumer is a person that purchases goods and services for some value. Consumer organization is advocacy group that seeks to protect people from corporate abuse. Unsafe products, false advertising, predatory lending and pollution are examples of corporate abuse.

Indian Government has formulated laws, acts, and standardization and implementing agencies like BIS or Prevention of Food Adulteration Act & Rules for consumer welfare, but market has always stayed ahead of government initiatives and has made loopholes in the state policies. Various efforts have been made by Government and Non-Government Organizations to protect the interest of consumer but exploitation of consumer will stop only when consumer himself will come forward to safeguard his own interest. Consumers at grass root level have to be organized for their rights and get involved in various process of implementation of laws and acts, which are made for the benefit of people, since majority of consumers, are not aware of such acts and their rights under the law.

It is no secret that government functioning in India is characterized by large scale misappropriation of public funds. In addition to corruption, there are other problems such as non-performance of duties and inefficient working that plague government sector in the country. We believe that where citizen are vigilant and have information about government activities (they have right to information under RTI Act), they can monitor public works and exert pressure to ensure that government funds are utilized effectively and that government employees perform their duties honestly and efficiently.
Prakash-India is an endeavor of few dedicated people from our society who firmly believe that India today needs a change; the society today needs a transformation not only on economic and material level but also on mental and moral levels. Hence, bankers, teachers and social workers from technical and non-technical fields-all assembled on a single platform to educate the common man about his consumer rights, to help the unprivileged and to arrest the negative trends prevailing in the society. We are of the opinion that combined force of Consumer Protection Act and Right to Information Act in hands of citizens could prove to be a big tool to combat corruption and enhance overall development in India.
Consumer Information Cell initiated by Prakash-India aims at educating consumers about CPA/RTI Acts, free legal service to consumers, inform them about consumer courts in their districts, to make effective representation before consumer courts and dissemination of knowledge by use of internet for access to government department. Anti-Corruption Resource Cell run by Prakash-India creates awareness and contributes to reduction of corruption in the society. It encourages specially the youth to become socially engaged in the fight against corruption.
